Members of the Japan Karate-Do Genbu-Kai team won


Members of the Japan Karate-Do Genbu-Kai team from Louisburg won competitions at a tournament in Pittsburg, Kan., last month.

Under the instruction of coaching veteran Andrew Ford, Louisburg had people place in age groups and competitions ranging from six-years old to adult.

In the beginner, six and under mixed division, Logan McClellan placed first in the kata and kumite competitions, and C.J. Barker placed second in the kumite.

In the beginner, 7-8 year-old mixed division, Elliott Madison placed first in the kata and kumite. Katie Jo Ray placed second in the kumite. Kevin McAfoos placed second in the kata.

In the advanced 10 and under mixed division, Taylor Chancellor placed first in the kata and Nic JoRay placed second in the kata and the kumite.

In the advanced 11-12 mixed division, Mitchell Southard placed second in the kata and third in the kumite. Leah Barngrover placed second in the kata and first in the kumite.

In the beginner 13-15 year old division, Amanda Smither placed second in the kata and first in the kumite.

In the adult white belt division, Dave Barker placed second in the kumite.

In the adult, orange belt division, Mary Sue Smither placed fourth in the kata and in kumite.

In the Men’s 18-35 blackbelt division, Andrew Ford, instructor placed second in the kata and first in the kumite.

In the 7-8 year old team kata division, Katie Jo Ray, McAfoos and Madison placed first.

In the junior 10-year old and up team kata division, Nic Jo Ray, Leah Barngrover and Southard placed first.

And in the adult team kata division, Leslie McClellan and Cody Chancellor placed first.
